October Update & Focus:  Shenandoah County continues to leverage its location along the I-81 corridor to promote growth and economic development opportunities. Earlier this year, the county also restructured its economic development efforts by combining the Economic Development Director role and Director of Tourism role into one, making Jenna French Director of Tourism and Business Development for the county. This restructuring supports all types of business within Shenandoah County from small entrepreneurs to major industry and everyone in between.

Shenandoah County said cheers with Filibuster Distillery as they celebrated the grand opening of their much anticipated tasting room following the award of a $30,000 Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development (AFID) grant last spring.  Filibuster's grand opening took place October 24th at their facility in Mauertown with Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Basil Gooden attending.

Our county saw a $10 million increase in visitor expenditures in 2016 for a total of $213 million.  This ranks #23 in the Commonwealth and represents 4.8% growth in the tourism industry over the previous year.  The tourism industry also supports over 1800 jobs and has seen a 27% increase in job growth since 2000.
